Women's Volleyball Loses First Conference Home Match to Bradford

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's volleyball team suffered their first home conference loss of the season on Tuesday evening as they were defeated by the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers by the final score of 3-1.

Pitt.-Bradford was able to build a small lead over the Spartans in the first set with a 5-1 advantage. They then extended their lead to 11-6 before D'Youville began to chip away and pull close to the Panthers. The Spartans came back to tie the set at 19-19 and then again at 23-23 before Bradford would go on to in the first set 25-23.

The Panthers continued their momentum into the second set as they jumped out to a 15-5 lead. Their 10-point lead increased to 14 with a 22-8 lead and they would then go on to win the second set 25-13.

D'Youville hit their stride in the third set. With a 6-5 lead, the Spartans took their game to another level and extended their lead to 10-6. Gaining further momentum, the women pushed their lead to six and they would eventually go on to win the third set 25-19.

In the fourth set, D'Youville looked to carry their momentum to even the match at 2-2. The two teams were tied at 6-6 before Bradford went on a 6-1 scoring run to take a 12-7 lead. Later on, the Panthers would go on a 10-1 run, going on to win the set 25-12 and winning the match 3-1.

Junior Megan Schneider (Lockport, NY/Lockport) hit the ball hard all evening and was a problem for the Panthers. Her 12 kills led the team, followed by Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City) with seven. Smith also led the team with 12 digs. Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) led the team with 24 assists, chipped gin with nine digs and six kills.

Senior Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) was the only other Spartan with double-digit digs, recording 10. Julie Fleming (Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary's Academy) had a team high two total blocks to go with three kills. McKenna Cartonia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had three service aces to lead the team.

The women will have an extended rest as they will play next Wednesday, October 12th at Penn State-Behrend. The match will begin at 7pm.
