Box Score 2 West Seneca, NY – The D'Youville Baseball Team played their second straight day of AMCC action on Sunday afternoon and were defeated by local rival Hilbert by the scores of 21-1 in game one and 9-0 in game two.
Hilbert came out early and flexed their offensive muscles, scoring 18 runs in the first 3 innings. D'Youville got their first run in the top of the third. Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) led off the inning with a single. Chris Ferril (Buffalo, NY/DaVinci) walked and moved Macrides to second in the next at-bat. The bases were then loaded as Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) singled down the left line. Bringing in the team's only run was the next batter, Brian Mattina-Chmiel (Grand Island, NY/Canisius) who grounded out to short but scored Macrides.
The Hawks would tack on 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth and win the game by the final of 21-1. Ferril was the losing pitcher, only pitching 1 inning but allowed 1 earned run. Pitchers Donnie Speranza (Saint James, NY/Smithtown East) and Anthony Oliveri (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) saw time in relief of Ferril.
Game two didn't show any success for the Spartans. Hilbert scored 7 runs in the third and 2 runs in the fourth to win the game by the final of 9-0. Kyle Taylor (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) picked up the loss, pitching 8 innings for his second complete game of the season in just his second start.
D'Youville's next game will come on Monday, April 27th at Centennial Park against the Penn State-Behrend Lions. The doubleheader will begin at 1pm with the second game coming at 3:30pm.
