Rochester, NY - The D'Youville Baseball Team lost in nine innings on Thursday evening against the University of Rochester Yellowjackets by the final of 13-4.

Rochester put 2 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. It wouldn't be until the fourth inning when the Spartans would get on the board. Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) earned a walk for the first runner of the inning. Shortstop Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) was up next and singled to move Simoncelli to second. Both players would reach home during the next at-bat, as Chris Ferril (Buffalo, NY/DaVinci) tripled down the left field line to tie the game at 2. 

With two outs in the inning, Jordan Iannarelli (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) reached base and advanced to second on a fielding error, which allowed Ferril to score. With a 3-2 lead, Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) increased the team lead with a single that drove in Iannarelli. At the end of the top of the fourth, D'Youville led 4-2.

The Spartan's lead would be short lived, as the Yellowjackets scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth and added 7 more in the bottom of the fifth to take the game 13-4.

Brian Mattina-Chmiel (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) was the losing pitcher in the game, going 4.2 innings and allowing 7 earned runs. In relief, Jeff Turner (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) allowed 4 runs in 3.1 innings and struck out 3. 

With 2 RBIs, Chris Ferril led the team in that category, followed by Louis Reynolds with 1. Jordan Iannarelli led the team with 2 hits and also scored a run.

The next game for the Spartans will come on Saturday, April 25th as the team takes on the Penn State-Altoona Lions at Coca-Cola Field at 1/3:30pm.
