Box Score 2 Olean, NY – The D'Youville Baseball Team took the field Tuesday afternoon at St. Bonaventure University as the Spartans were hosted by the Pitt.-Bradford Panthers in a doubleheader and were defeated by the scores of 5-1 in game one and 10-1 in game two.
D'Youville's only run of the game would come in the fifth inning as the team was down 2-0. Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) came into the game to pinch hit for Chris Ferril (Buffalo, NY/DaVinci) and singled for the first baserunner of the inning. Right fielder Jordan Iannarelli (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) came up next and singled, moving Simoncelli to second. Simoncelli would score on the next play as Kyle Taylor (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) singled in the first run of the game for D'Youville.
Bradford would add 1 run in the bottom of the fifth and 2 more in the bottom of the sixth to win the game by the final of 5-1. Nick Ivanoff (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) pitched a complete game, going 6 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Kyle Taylor accounted for the team's RBI, driving in the team's only run in Eric Simoncelli.
The Spartans wouldn't face any better of an outcome in game two, but would get on the board early. Kyle Taylor got on base with a walk as the second batter of the inning. Nick Ivanoff then singled to move Taylor to second. Two batters later, Travis Macrides (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) singled to left center field, scoring Taylor and the game's first run.
Pitt.-Bradford would go on to score 10 runs for the remainder of the game, winning the game by the final score of 10-1. Steve Vik (Hopkins, SC/Lower Richland) picked up the loss, allowing 4 earned runs. Anthony Oliveri (Wheatfield, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) came in relief of Vik, tossing 6 innings. Brian Mattina-Chmiel (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius) closed out the game with 2 innings of scoreless baseball.
D'Youville will get their chance to get back in the win column quickly, as they head to Hilbert tomorrow on Wednesday, April 22nd to play the Hawks at 1/3:30pm.
