Box Score 2 Greensburg, PA – The D'Youville Baseball Team was swept on Sunday by the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats by the final scores of 13-2 in game one and 15-0 in game two.
In game one, the Bobcats got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Greensburg scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the third inning to bring the score to 4-0.
Thomas Brummer (Amherst, NY/St. Joe's) singled in the top of the fourth inning to reach base for the Spartans. He would advance to third thanks to Nick Ivanoff (Scranton, PA/West Scranton), and would then move to third on a passed ball. Bringing Brummer home was Eric Simoncelli (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), who doubled in D'Youville's first run of the game.
Greensburg's offense would score 7 more runs in the bottom of the inning, taking an 11-1 lead. To leadoff the fifth, Nick Stimpfel singled. Louis Reynolds (Batavia, NY/Notre Dame) walked, advancing Stimpfel to second. Three batters later, Matt Wendling (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) singled and brought home Stimpfel.
D'Youville's offense wasn't enough as the Spartans would lose to the Bobcats by the final of 13-2.
Dan Fox (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) picked up the loss in 3.1 innings of work. Matt Wendling and Eric Simoncelli tallied the only 2 RBIs for the team in game one.
Game two wasn't any better for D'Youville as they suffered a 15-0 loss to Greensburg. The Spartans shutout the Bobcats in 5 innings, but in the innings they did score, Pitt.-Greensburg scored 5, 1 and 9 runs.
Nick Ivanoff received the loss after pitching 6 innings. Thomas Brummer had a team high 2 hits, followed by 1 each from Matt Wendling and Jordan Iannarelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park).
The next game for the men will be on Tuesday, April 14th as the team heads to Alfred State to play a doubleheader at 2/4pm.
