Box Score Hamburg, NY – The D'Youville men's soccer team traveled to Hilbert College Wednesday afternoon for their third AMCC game of the season and were defeated by the Hawks by the final score of 5-1.
D'Youville jumped out to an early lead in the game, with senior Nick Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) scoring in the 14th minute to give the Spartans a 1-0. Johnson collected a loose ball in front of the goal and buried it for his second of the season.
In the 32nd minute, Hilbert would answer back with the equalizer after a low cross into the box to make the score 1-1. Just 10 minutes later, Hilbert would take the lead with a second goal before half and take a 2-1 lead into half time.
Opening up the second half, the Hawks would keep their momentum and score 2 goals in less than a minute. In the 51st minute, Hilbert picked up a ball in front of the net and doubled the Hawks lead. Less than 30 seconds later, Hilbert would be awarded a penalty kick and score, taking a 4-1 lead.
As the half nearly reached an end, the Hawks added one more goal with just 4 seconds left in the game. Hilbert would defeat D'Youville by the final score of 5-1.
The Spartans would have their best shooting game of the season, recording 20 shots and 11 shots on goal in the game. Johnson, along with Aaron Zelko (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) and Brandon Pauly (Owego, NY/Owego) each accounted for 3 shots and 2 shots on goal.
The next game for the men comes on Saturday, October 10th at Penn State-Altoona.
