Box Score Greensburg, PA – On the road for their second conference game of the season, the D'Youville men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon to the Pitt.-Greensburg Bobcats.
The Spartans were on the offensive early with three corners in the first 3 minutes of the game. Greensburg, however, outshot the Spartans in the beginning part of the game, with Nick Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) registering the first shot for D'Youville in the 20th minute.
Both teams would trade shots until the Bobcats broke the scoreless tie in the 30th minute on a header following a cross into the box. As the first half drew to a close, the Spartans got on the board to tie the game. Freshman Justin Pepe (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) recorded his first collegiate goal off a one-timer free kick from Patrick Mann (Brighton, NY/Brighton). The half would end just a minute later with the score tied 1-1.
D'Youville came out in the second half hungry for another goal as Mark Passantino (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) registered a shot just :16 seconds after the second half whistle blew. Despite the early offensive push, Greensburg would again break the tie, scoring in the 52nd minute off another header to lead the game 2-1.
Greensburg would add to their lead by scoring another goal in the 72nd minute, making the score 3-1. The Spartans would get a few shots in late, but time would run out for D'Youville and they would fall to the Bobcats by the final of 3-1.
Justin Pepe scored his first goal of the season and Pat Mann got his first assist. Nick Johnson had a team high 3 shots, followed by Mark Passantino and Brandon Pauly (Owego, NY/Owego) with 2 each. Goalkeeper Brett Matthews (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) made 3 saves on 6 shots in 90 minutes between the posts.
The Spartans will play next at local AMCC rival Hilbert on Wednesday, October 7th at 2:00pm.
