Box Score August 29th, 2014 – Opening night of the 2014 D'Youville Women's Volleyball team did not go the Spartans way as they lost to Wells College 3-1 Friday night.
The Spartans won the first game 25-15 on Well's court, but then proceeded to lose the next 3 games 17-25, 22-25 and 18-25.
On her team's first game of the year, Head Coach Stephanie Kazmierczak said "Tough to open up the season on the road with a loss. We know we can play better and I expect to see a different team in tomorrow's matches."
A pair of freshman turned in solid performances for the Spartans. Kendyll Smith (Petrolia, PA/Karns City HS) and Abby Booth (Hamburg, NY/Frontier HS) both played in their first career games and led the way for a young Spartans squad.
"We learned a lot about [what] we do right and what we still need to work on," said Kazmierczak.
The team has a quick turnaround as they host the AMCC-NEAC Challenge at the College Center Gym on Saturday August 30th. The Spartans play at 12pm against Morrisville St, and then again at 2pm against Keuka College.
