Box Score 2 Bradford, PA-Playing their conference "home opener", D'Youville surrendered the winning runs in close games and dropped both ends of today's doubleheader against Pitt-Bradford.
The games were scheduled to be played on the Spartans' home field at the Amherst Northtown Center but field conditions forced the date to be played at Pitt-Bradford. D'Youville was the designated home team and had the final at-bat in each game.
In the opener, Pitt-Bradford scored four runs with two outs in the top of the seventh, all unearned, to win 4-0. The Spartans were held to just three hits, one was double by Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield).
Pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) scattered five hits and struck out five in the loss. Four times this season McHenry has been tagged with a loss after allowing one or no earned runs.
In the nightcap, Pitt-Bradford slipped past the Spartans 3-2.
Pitt-Bradford opened the game with a two-run homer in the first and D'Youville responded in the bottom of the frame with a pair to tie the game. DeVantier singled home Lydia Monin (Buffalo, NY/Tapestry Charter School) and later scored on an RBI double from Hannah Turek (Depew, NY/Lancaster).
The Spartans would get a runner as far as second base in the second and third inning but couldn't drive them home.
The winning run came in the top of the fourth on a single, a stolen base, and two wild pitches.
D'Youville starter McHenry would go the distance and strike out eight for her eighth complete game of the season.
D'Youville is now 0-4 in the AMCC.
