Softball Sweeps La Roche Runs Spartans' Streak to Four

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Williamsville, NY-Softball took both ends of their home doubleheader against visiting La Roche College and the Spartans are pointed in the right direction heading into next weekend's AMCC Tournament.

D'Youville win the first game 6-2 and took the second 7-2. The Spartans had a big inning in each game and pitcher Kalie McHenry tossed complete game wins in both.

In the opener, a five-run third inning did the damage. A two-run triple by MacKenzie Kehlenbeck(Oakfield, NY/Oakfield-Alabama)along with an RBI single from Shannon Evans(Cheektowaga, NY/East Aurora)and an RBI from Hannah Turek (Lancaster, NY/Depew) put the Spartans up 5-0.

Alison Hall(Cheektowaga, NY/Depew) would add an RBI single in the fifth and that would be all the support pitcher Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) would need. McHenry would allow seven hits and just one earned run while striking out four.

In the second game, McHenry would allow just three hits and strikeout four in the Spartans' 7-2 win.

This time the Spartans would be behind 2-1 after three innings. The Spartans would blow the game open with five runs in the fifth coming from five hits, two walks, and an error. RBI singles from Kehlenbeck, Lauren DeVantier (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), along with a Shannon Sutton (Lykens, PA/Upper Dauphin) RBI walk and a two-run single from Turek made it 6-2.

The seventh and final run would come from an RBI single from DeVantier.

Today was Senior Day and prior to the start of play the team's three seniors: Shannon Evans, Shannon Sutton, and Lisa Petty were honored.

D'Youville has won four-straight games and improves to 10-6 in AMCC play (13-13 overall). The Spartans will be the #5 seed for next weekend's AMCC Tournament hosted by top see Penn State Behrend.

Before the postseason, D'Youville will look to stay hot with their final doubleheader of the season tomorrow (April 28) versus Medaille College at the Amherst Northtown Center. Start time is to be announced.
