Box Score Greensburg, PA - The D'Youville Men's Soccer Team saw their season end at the feet of their first round playoff opponent Pitt.-Greensburg by the score of 2-0.
D'Youville and Pitt.-Greensburg had a scoreless first half, but just 2 minutes into the second half the Bobcats ended the scoring drought by netting their first goal of the game. The Spartans managed to put pressure on Pitt.-Greensburg's defense and the two teams traded chances up until the 67 minute mark where the Bobcats scored their second goal of the half to make the score 2-0.
D'Youville desperately tried to get a goal of their own, including a scramble in the Bobcat's box, but to no avail did the Spartans score as the game ended in a 2-0 final in favor of Pitt.-Greensburg. As a team, the Spartans had 6 shots, all of which were on goal. The team played and fought hard in their first ever playoff game.
Junior goalkeeper Brett Matthews (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) made 5 saves on 7 shots. Senior Edward Appah (Bronx, NY/Bishop Herman) and sophomore Joe Hall (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Loyola) tied for the team lead in shots on goal with 2 each.
This season, the D'Youville Men's Soccer Team earned their first ever AMCC Playoff appearance. The team was 3-5-1 in conference play, making the playoffs as the 6 seed. An improvement of 3 wins in conference play made a huge difference for the team this season and pushed them towards the playoffs. A 4 game unbeaten streak that saw the men go 3-0-1 powered the team to the playoffs as well.
Head Coach Brendan Murphy, assistant coaches Jim Hesch and Matt Smith have helped create a new culture for the D'Youville Men's Soccer Team, along with players on this year's team. The team looks to build on this season's success and continue their playoff run for seasons to come.
