Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville Men's Soccer Team saw their 4 game unbeaten streak end on Wednesday evening as the fell to the first place and unbeated Penn St.-Behrend Lions 7-2.
Coming into the game with a league leading 28 goals for, the high powered Lions offense scored 2 goals in the first half against the Spartan's defense, who had allowed 3 goals in their last 4 games. Within 15 minutes of the beginning of the second half, Penn St.-Behrend turned up the pressure on D'Youville and scored 4 goals to make the score 6-0.
The Lions defense had been impressive all game, just as they have been all season long, only allowing 1 goal throughout their entire conference schedule. In the 68th minute, freshman Daniel Tarbell (Clarence, NY/Clarence) doubled the Lion's goal against average. Tarbell received a pass from fellow freshman Bryce Humphrey (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), made a move past the goalie and scored his second goal of the season. The assist was Humphrey's first assist of the season and his collegiate career.
Just about 6 minutes later, D'Youville received a free kick just at the top of the Lion's box. Freshman Alf Johann Egge (Stavanger, Norway/Stavanger) stepped up and ripped a beautiful free kick past the Penn St.-Behrend goalie to make the score 6-2.
Penn St.-Behrend added another goal late to make the final score 7-2. The Spartan defense was under constant attack as they faced an incredible 39 shots throughout the game, with 20 being on goal.
D'Youville managed 8 shots, with 6 being on goal. All other teams in the conference that Penn St.-Behrend had played this year scored 1 goal combined, while D'Youville's youthful squad scored 2 against the Lions in 1 game. The loss now brings D'Youville's conference record to 3-3-1.
