Buffalo, NY- The men's soccer team concluded play in the Buffalo Tournament with a close 1-0 loss to Thiel College. Thiel scored their only goal with 35 seconds left in the first half after Matt Smith (Bergen, NY / Byron-Bergen) had an outstanding save which rebounded back into play and allowed for the Thiel player to score.

Overall the Spartans showed great improvement both defensively and offensively. The men played hard and smart with only two subs, keeping most of their players in for all 90 minutes. The offense keeps improving by continuing to increase their shots on goal; while the defense is looking sharper each game by giving up less shots. Anthony Galvano (North Tonawanda, NY / Niagara-Wheatfield) contributed to the Spartans' efforts with three shots and Patrick Mann (Rochester, NY / Brighton) followed behind with two shots for the Spartans.

Coach Brendan Murphy is very pleased with the effort and work his team continues to put into each game. He is looking forward to the growth his players will continue to make as the season progresses.

The D'Youville men's next game is scheduled for Saturday, September 14th at Widener University at 7:30pm. Their next home game is Saturday, September 21st against Buffalo State at the Riverside Athletic Complex. Kick-off is at 7pm.
