Box Score Buffalo, NY- Men's soccer made their first appearance of the season at the Riverside Athletic Complex and D'Youville put forth another gritty hard nosed effort in the 2-0 loss to Juniata College.
Goalkeeper Matt Smith (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) made a career-high 15 saves, 11 coming in the first half, and the defensive unit held the opposition to a scoreless second half.
Juniata scored a pair of first half goals to get their third win of the year. The first came in the 18th minute and the second came off a corner in the 28th minute.
Nick Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Matt Veronica (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) recorded shots for the Spartans.
"I can't say enough good things about our effort tonight," said Spartan's Head Coach Brendan Murphy. "To keep this caliber of a program off the board for over 60 minutes is a great accomplishment for our guys."
The Spartans play Thiel College tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Athletic Complex.
