Women's Volleyball Splits on Day Two at Tournament

Morrisville, NY- The Spartans opened day two of the Morrisville Tournament with a 4-1 win against Morrisville St. Set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, and 25-20. Alyssa Dueringer (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added eight kills and 15 assists to the Spartans' victory. Savannah Brayton (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) also contributed eight kills and 13 digs while Emily Milbrand (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) had seven kills and a career high of six blocks.

D'Youville's victory against Morrisville State was Head Coach John Hutton's 100th win for D'Youville Women's Volleyball.

The Spartans ended the tournament with a loss to Keystone College that came down to five sets. D'Youville won the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-18 and had a lead of 19-15 in the third set but unfortunately fell with a 25-22 loss for that set. After trailing in the fourth set 17-12, the Spartans rallied and tied at 20-20 but lost a close one at 26-24. They closed the match with a 15-5 score but it was not enough to complete the comeback.

During the match against Keystone College the Spartans dug a season-high of 107 balls. Both Brayton and Kayla Deth (Cheektowaga, NY/Holy Angels Academy) recorded personal records of 27 and 25 digs respectively.

Natalie Rieman (West Seneca, NY/Immaculata) had 17 assists and 15 digs while Milbrand had 12 kills during the Keystone match.

Coach Hutton commented on the second match, "This was a bitter one to take. Our effort was great and our opponent didn't give up. The close match validates our work. It shows us how much better we are."

Alyssa Dueringer and Emily Milbrand were named to the All-Tournament Team. In four matches, Dueringer totaled 20 kills, 69 digs, 66 assists, 4 service aces, and 3 blocks. Milbrand went for 31 kills, 10 blocks, and 2 service aces in the four matches.

The Spartans are now 5-6 and surpasses the 2012 season win total of four. Their next match is away against Brockport State College and is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th at 7 p.m.
