Williamsville, N.Y.- After dropping game one of the AMCC twin-bill against Pitt-Greensburg 1-0, D'Youville made the most of their opportunities and grinded out a 9-1 win that was just five innings long.

The Spartans generated the 9 runs on just 5 hits. D'Youville boarded the base paths on 5 walks and 2 errors and effectively used 4 sacrifices to move runners along.

Jessica Banning (Amherst, NY/Amherst) was 1-3 with 3 RBI and got the win allowing just two hits and striking out three. It was the sophomore's third-straight win and improves her record to 6-3 on the season.

Lauren DeVantier (Niagara, Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 2-3 with an RBI, and Sara Persutti (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) had an RBI single.

The Spartans scored three runs in the first on no hits. Three walks, two sacrifices, an error, and two wild pitches set the tone.

Three in fourth followed by three in the fifth gave the Spartans enough to invoke the eight-run rule and close the game.

The opening game saw D'Youville bats get just three hits and generate just one scoring opportunity. The second inning opened with back-to-back singles by Courtney Clark (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas)and DeVantier and rally would end with three Spartan strikeouts. D'Youville would have just more base runner the rest of the game.

Kalie McHenry (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) was tagged with a tough loss after giving up just 6 hits and registering 9 strikeouts. Thr lone run was scored in the sixth inning.

Spartan coach Angie Churchill after the outing, "I am really happy with our pitchers and defense today. We only gave up two runs all day. We need to do a better job adjusting at the plate. We have put ourselves in a good spot in the conference and we just need to finish game."

The Spartans are back at it tomorrow (April 22) on their home field versus AMCC rival Penn State Altoona. Doubleheader start time at the Amherst Northtown Center (1615 Amherst Manor Dr.; Williamsville, NY) is 2:00 p.m.
