The D’Youville Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Bill Morris as the department’s new Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance in November of 2019.
“We could not be more excited to have Bill joining our staff,” said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ona Halladay. “Bill comes to us with a wealth of compliance knowledge as well experience with specific sport oversight. Bill is a team player and will work with the current staff to move our athletic department boldly forward.”
At D’Youville, Bill is tasked with expanding the compliance aspect of the department, assisting coaches and student-athletes alike. “Bill will primarily be responsible for all compliance matters in the department,” said Halladay. “He will continue to build a robust compliance program for our coaches, student-athletes, and prospective student-athletes. He will also oversee sport programs as a direct report.”
“I am extremely excited to join D’Youville and be part of their growing vision and help bring it to life,” said Morris. “This is an institution on the rise and the athletic department that has great potential. I look forward to being part of something special here.”
Morris brought with him a great deal of experience from several Western New York institutions. In the five years prior to arriving at D'Youville, Morris was the associate athletic director for compliance at his alma mater, Division I Canisius College. Prior to Canisius, the Greenwood Lake, N.Y., native served in a similar role as assistant athletic director for compliance at Division I Niagara University during the 2014-15 academic year.
Prior to the 2014-15 academic year, Morris played a pivotal role as the Director of Athletics during Daemen College's application for NCAA Division II. Throughout his three years as a Wildcat, Morris led the department by introducing new athletic logos and increasing corporate sponsorships.
Morris spent his first stint at Niagara University from 2003 to 11, serving as the Purple Eagles' associate athletic director for compliance and administration. Morris got his start in the compliance side of intercollegiate athletics as the graduate assistant for compliance at Canisius for two years and as the assistant director of compliance at the University of Central Florida for one year.
Morris is a two-time graduate of Canisius, earning his bachelor's degree in marketing in 2000 and his master's in sport administration in 2002. While at Canisius, Morris played for the Golden Griffins’ baseball program as a pitcher. Additionally, during his first stint at Niagara, Morris earned his MBA in 2007.
Morris lives in Lancaster, NY with his wife Jacqueline, a former Golden Griffin herself who played softball at Canisius from 1997 to 2000. The couple has two children, William III and Francesca.
