Danny Glover is entering his 10th season as the head coach of the D'Youville women's basketball program and his 15th season as a member of D'Youville Athletics. Having played four seasons and coached two years for the men's basketball team, Glover took over the women's basketball program in August 2012.
Glover's ninth year at the helm of D'Youville women's basketball featured a pair of milestone victories, as well as the continued development of Sara Pfeiffer. The 2020-21 campaign marked D'Youville's first season as a Division II program and as a member of the East Coast Conference. The new era of D'Youville women's basketball was the first played under the rebranded Saints nickname. In his fourth game at the new tier, Glover guided the Saints to their first win over Division II competition with a 72-64 victory over Clarion on January 31, 2021. Four games later, Glover and the Saints picked up another monumental win in an eight-point home triumph over Mercy, marking the school's first-ever win in the ECC. The COVID-19 shortened season also saw Pfeiffer pace the ECC in scoring per game, earning the sophomore guard ECC Player of the Week honors once and a selection to the All-ECC Second Team.
In the team's eighth year under Glover, D'Youville posted the second-most wins in program history by compiling an 18-9 overall record and advanced to the AMCC semifinals thanks to a home playoff win over Penn State-Altoona. The team's 15-5 conference record and third-place finish in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference also marked the most conference wins and highest finish in program history. Individually, the team had two all-conference selections as Danielle Hore earned First Team All-AMCC honors while Pfeiffer earned Second Team All-AMCC honors and AMCC Newcomer of the Year, the second consecutive year that the award was brought home by a D'Youville player.
Throughout the 2019-20 season, the women posted three separate winning streaks of three games or more and defeated their rival Hilbert, the reigning conference champions, twice. A strong recruiting class helped push the Red and Black to new heights under Glover as the top six scorers for D'Youville were freshmen or sophomores, while the top four rebounders were underclassmen as well.
With Glover’s guidance, D'Youville doubled their win total from 2017-18 to 2018-19. Led by a strong senior class and a standout freshman in Hore, the women were in playoff contention throughout the season with several key wins. Hore was one of the best all-around players in the conference as she ranked top-five in scoring, rebounding, steals, and assists, being named a Second Team All-AMCC selection and winning AMCC Newcomer of the Year.
In 2016-17, Glover's squad got out to a hot start and had one all-conference selection, as senior Jean-Ann Korona was a Second Team All-AMCC pick and the D'Youville Female Athlete of the Year. In addition, captain Ali Cochrane was named AMCC Woman of the Year for her outstanding work in the classroom, in the community, on the court, and due to her contributions to D'Youville.
Glover led Red and Black to a breakout season in 2015-16, compiling a 13-14 overall record and going 9-9 in AMCC play. D'Youville began conference play at 2-8 but one of the best runs in program history propelled the Red and Black to win seven out of their final eight AMCC games and make the postseason. The team then used an 83-77 home victory against Mount Aloysius in the AMCC quarterfinals to earn the program's first trip to the AMCC semifinal round. The team had three individuals receive all-conference awards. Danette Laguerre was named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team, while Alexis Smith and Korona were named Third Team All-AMCC selections. Shannon Dougherty, Smith, and Laguerre all left their their mark in the school record books as Laguerre ranked first all-time in career steals, Dougherty and Smith both joined the 1,000-point club in their final seasons, and Smith finished with the program lead in career points.
In the program's third year under Glover, the then-Spartans began the season by winning the Oswego State Max Ziel Tip-off Tournament and getting off to a 4-0 start, eventually heading into the Christmas break with a 7-1 record. The 2014-15 season was also highlighted with victories over rivals Hilbert and Medaille, as Glover's group finished 10-14 to post back-to-back seasons with double-digit wins, while Bridget Andrews joined the 1,000-point club.
During his second season at D'Youville, Glover led the Spartans to their first AMCC postseason appearance and their first postseason appearance overall since 2008. The Spartans finished the 2013-14 season at 11-15 overall and 9-9 in AMCC play, as Dougherty found herself named to the All-AMCC Third Team.
Glover opened a new era of D’Youville women's basketball on November 16, 2012 with a 57-50 win over SUNY Cobleskill at the Oswego St. Tournament, making Glover the first D'Youville women's basketball coach in the modern era to win their debut. The new coach continued making it a season of firsts, winning his opening AMCC contest with a 73-50 win at Hilbert. The Spartans finished the season 7-18, only one spot short of a playoff berth. Smith broke multiple records, including most points scored by a freshman in a single game and most points scored by any player in a single game. Smith was named AMCC Newcomer of the Year and was selected to the All-AMCC Second Team.
Before being named the head coach of the women's program, Glover served as an assistant coach/director of basketball operations for the men's basketball team from 2010 to 2012. His efforts in 2011-12 helped men's hoops to their first AMCC postseason appearance.
In his playing career for D'Youville, the six-foot shooting guard played in 94 games and ranked among the program's all-time leaders in three-point percentage. Glover also received the team's Most Improved Player award after his sophomore season and the Spartan Award after his senior season. In his final home game as a player (February 13, 2010 versus Pitt-Greensburg), Glover set a new single-game team record by making seven three-point baskets.
A two-time Academic All-Conference selection, Glover completed a dual degree at D'Youville, receiving a bachelor degree in exercise and sports studies as well as business management. Glover went on to receive his master's degree from California University of Pennsylvania in sports management with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration.
Hailing from Angola, N.Y., Glover is a graduate of Lake Shore High School and currently resides in West Seneca, N.Y.
