Dan Gerken is in his seventh year as an assistant coach for the D'Youville women's basketball program.
In 2021, Gerken helped the Saints to their first victory over NCAA Division II competition, a 72-64 road win over Clarion on January 31, and D'Youville's first East Coast Conference victory, a 78-70 victory over Mercy at the College Center Gym on February 27.
After a two year hiatus from coaching at Lake Shore to watch his son play high school basketball, Coach Gerken returned to the court as an assistant for the Red and Black. The high school coach of D'Youville head coach Dan Glover, Gerken has over 28 years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate level.
Upon the addition of Gerken, Glover said "This is an amazing opportunity. I couldn't ask for a better person, coach, and role model to join our staff. I'm looking forward to this unique experience to add Coach Gerken to the staff and learn from his vast knowledge of the game. He will add a different element to our program, and I am very excited to see where the journey leads us this season."
At Lake Shore, Gerken was a two-time ECIC Division II Coach of the Year and is the all-time leader in wins, winning percentage and games coached for the boy's basketball team.
Gerken played under basketball coach Bill Nelson at RIT and is a member of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.
A 1984 graduate from the Rochester Institute of Technology, Gerken lives in Hamburg, N.Y., with his wife Maureen and their children, Zach and Haley.
