Rey Martinez is in his fifth season as an assistant coach for the D'Youville men's soccer program, joining head coach Brendan Murphy's staff after finishing an extensive playing career.
Aside from his playing experience, Martinez has also served as an assistant coach for the Rochester Lancers of the Major Arena Soccer League and as the Director of Programming for the Delaware Soccer Club.
Martinez began his professional playing career for Ciudad la Habana before leaving Cuba to play for the Colorado Rapids in the MLS. He would then go on to play in various North American indoor and outdoor leagues, suiting up for teams including the Rochester Rhinos, St. Louis Steamers, Baltimore Blast, Carolina RailHawks, New Jersey Ironmen, Real Maryland Monarchs, Philadelphia KiXX, Rochester Lancers, and Syracuse Silver Knights
For his international playing career, Martinez represented Cuba on the national team on multiple occasions. He made his debut for the Cuban National Team in 2000 at the FIFA World Cup qualification. In addition, he played in tournaments such as the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Copa Caribe, and the Pan American Games.
Martinez is a native of Havana, Cuba.
