Biography
Just as a college-bound athlete would sign a letter of intent to play their favorite sport in college, Aiden Tojec-Acevedo was able to do the same.
Tojec-Acevedo, a nine-year-old third grader from St. Mary's School for the Deaf, has rheumatoid arthritis and alopecia. He is also deaf.
The D'Youville men's basketball team invited him to be an honorary member of the team and held a "formal" signing day at the College Center Gym.
Team IMPACT is a non-profit that pairs kids with chronic illnesses or life-threatening diseases with role model athletes. The bond that they create is ongoing and lasts through graduation.
"I am very happy to welcome Aiden into the Saint's family," said men's basketball player Jared Sullivan. "He really fits in, and he is where he belongs."
Tojec-Acevedo attended many of the Saints' home games this season, joining the team on the bench as an honorary Saint. His name and photo will be added to the team's online roster and he will continue to be included as a member of the team.
