Mike Plandowski joined the D’Youville University athletics department as the Saints Associate Athletic Trainer in January 2024. Plandowski works side by side with athletic training staff, to provide complete medical care for D’Youville’s 22 athletic teams.
The WNY native previously served as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Hilbert College from 2018-2023. Prior to that, he served as the Head Athletic Trainer for several minor league hockey clubs, dating back to 2000. His responsibilities included athletic training duties for all home/away games as well as all practices for the Elmira Jackals (2016-17), Utah Grizzlies (2007-16), Kalamazoo Wings (2003-06), and the Quad City Mallards (2002-03), among others. Additionally, he coordinated all medically related needs for each team, planned and initiated strength and conditional programs while communicating with the league insurance/worker’s compensation providers.
During the off-season summer months in Utah, from 2008-2015, Plandowski served as an Athletic Trainer for the Rocky Mountain Therapy Services providing patient care regarding modality usages, rehabilitation and home exercise programs while assisting the staff’s Physical Therapists.
Plandowski has BOC certification, New York State Licensure, and American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED for the professional rescuer certification.
Plandowski earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Capital University in 1999 before graduating with his Master of Science degree from the University of Kentucky in Kinesiology/Biomechanics in 2000.
