AMHERST, N.Y. — D'Youville fell 1-0 to Daemen on Wednesday despite a strong defensive effort in the second half and several scoring opportunities late in the opening 45 minutes.
The Saints finished with 10 shots, including eight in the first half, while Daemen recorded 16 shots and held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal. Amanda Kit made six saves in goal for D'Youville, including three in each half.
Daemen took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Natalie Krelie found the back of the net. The Saints had an immediate opportunity to respond when Hannah Fleming stepped up for a penalty kick, but Daemen goalkeeper Rylee Kumer made the save to preserve the Wildcats' lead.
D'Youville continued to pressure Daemen late in the half, recording five shots during a stretch from the 39th through 44th minutes. Gabrielle Giesing twice found the woodwork, while Sophia Menezes put a shot on goal that was saved by Kumer. Kit made three saves before halftime as the Saints entered the break trailing 1-0.
The Saints continued to battle in the second half, but Kit and the D'Youville defense kept Daemen off the scoreboard. Kit made three more saves after halftime, while D'Youville created opportunities through Alessia Agostinelli's shot in the 66th minute, corner kicks in the 69th and 76th minutes and a Giesing attempt in the 82nd minute.
D'Youville was unable to find the equalizer as Daemen held on for the 1-0 victory.
Giesing led the Saints with three shots, while Menezes and Olivia Paterniti each recorded one shot on goal. Kit finished with six saves over 90 minutes.
