BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated Molloy 1-0 on Saturday in the ECC Women's Match of the Week, earning its third consecutive victory and opening conference play with a win. The victory also marked the Saints' first win over Molloy in program history.
Gabrielle Giesing provided the game-winning goal at 43:42, scoring unassisted to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The Saints created several chances throughout the opening half, with Emily Stefik and Carsyn Corydon putting shots on goal while D'Youville earned two corner kicks. Amanda Kit also made a key save at 40:23 to keep the match scoreless.
D'Youville maintained its advantage throughout the second half despite pressure from Molloy. Kit made four saves after halftime as the Lions pushed for an equalizer, helping the Saints preserve the shutout.
The Saints also created opportunities of their own after halftime. Stefik recorded two shots on goal, while Manta Socada had an attempt saved following a D'Youville corner kick.
Molloy finished with a 10-8 advantage in shots, but both teams recorded six shots on goal. D'Youville held its 1-0 lead through the final whistle to secure its third straight win, first conference victory of the season and first-ever win over Molloy.
The victory came in the ECC Women's Match of the Week, giving D'Youville a historic start to conference play.
