WATERBURY, Conn. - The D'Youville University women's volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 victory over Post University on Friday night at Drubner Center, winning by set scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-21.
The Saints were in control from the service line to the net. DYU outkilled Post 35-21 and hit .196 for the match while holding the hosts to a .038 attack percentage. D'Youville also served up 13 aces to Post's three and held a 7-1 edge in total blocks.
Post pulled within 11-9 in the opening set before the Saints took over with Madeline O'Brien at the service line. DYU rattled off six straight points to go up 17-9, with Cameron Ulinski putting down two kills during the run, Ashley Ballou adding a kill and O'Brien serving an ace. The Saints never looked back and closed out the set 25-14.
With the second set knotted at 9-9, D'Youville broke it open with five unanswered points to take a 14-9 lead. Maddie Boglev and Ulinski each recorded a kill, Ballou served an ace and Gabrielle Dials and Boglev teamed up for a block during the spurt. Post cut the deficit to 20-16, but the Saints answered by taking four of the next six points. Boglev finished off the set with kills on DYU's final two points to give the Saints a 25-19 win and a 2-0 match lead.
Post battled back to tie the third set at 16-16, but D'Youville responded. Paige Genke served an ace, Dials and Trinity Foster combined on a block and Dials added a kill to put the Saints back in front 20-16. Dials later brought up set point, and Genke and Giselle Ramirez teamed up on the final block to seal the 25-21 set and the sweep.
Ulinski led the team with four service aces and added five kills for 9.0 points. Boglev recorded a team-best seven kills on .667 hitting with three block assists, while Dials put down six kills without an attack error, also hitting .667, and chipped in seven digs and three block assists. Ballou dished out a team-high 14 assists to go along with three kills on five attacks and two aces.
D'Youville stays in Connecticut for a matchup at Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
