STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — D'Youville defeated Staten Island, 2-1, on Saturday in league play, using two first-half goals and a seven-save performance from goalkeeper Alegra Black to secure the road victory.
The Saints broke through in the 35th minute when Ariana Dandu scored an unassisted goal at 34:50 to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead. D'Youville doubled its advantage just before halftime, as Emily Stefik found the back of the net at 41:58 off an assist from Kayla Frasca. Stefik's goal was ultimately credited as the game-winning goal.
D'Youville entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage despite Staten Island generating early pressure. Black made three saves during the opening half to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard, while the Saints continued to build their attack as the half progressed.
Staten Island cut the deficit to 2-1 at 68:01, putting D'Youville under pressure during the closing stages. The Saints responded with several attacking chances of their own, recording three shots and a corner kick during a stretch from 77:31 to 85:21. Stefik had one of those attempts saved before putting another shot on target at 89:19.
Black came up with four additional saves in the second half, helping D'Youville preserve its one-goal advantage through the final whistle.
D'Youville finished with a 14-12 edge in shots, while Staten Island held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal. Stefik led the Saints with four shots, including three on target. Dandu finished with one shot and one goal, while Frasca added an assist.
Black made seven saves across 90 minutes to anchor the Saints' defensive effort as D'Youville secured the 2-1 league victory.
The Lady Saints look to continue their win streak as they host Molloy next Saturday, September 26th at 12pm at Dobson Field in Buffalo N.Y.
