SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — D'Youville earned a 2-0 victory over American International on Wednesday at Ronald J. Abdow Field, snapping a four-game non-winning streak. The Saints scored once in each half and held off a late surge from the Yellow Jackets to secure the shutout.
D'Youville opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Gabrielle Giesing found the back of the net at 24:54 to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage. Manta Socada and Ariana Dandu each put shots on goal earlier in the half, forcing saves from American International goalkeeper Sara Avery, while Emily Stefik added another shot attempt.
The Saints maintained their one-goal advantage through halftime, with goalkeeper Alegra Black making her first save of the match in the 41st minute to keep American International off the scoreboard.
Stefik doubled the D'Youville lead in the 80th minute, scoring to make it 2-0. The Saints continued to pressure the Yellow Jackets late, with Alessia Agostinelli, Stefik and Giesing each recording shots on goal.
American International generated eight attacking actions between 77:36 and 87:57, but D'Youville's defense and Black kept the Yellow Jackets off the board during the late stretch. Black made three saves after halftime, including two following Stefik's goal, to preserve the shutout.
Giesing led the Saints with three shots, including two on goal, while Stefik matched her with three shots and two shots on goal. Black finished with six saves over 90 minutes to record the shutout.
The victory marks D'Youville's first win following a four-game non-winning streak.
