SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — D'Youville faced two challenging matches on day two of the 2026 IVHOF East Region Clash hosted by American International College, experiencing a tough 3-2 loss to Bentley before bouncing back with a strong 3-1 victory against Bridgeport later that day.
In the match against Bentley, D'Youville lost 25-27, 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 15-9. D'Youville totaled 49 kills and 11 aces but struggled with a .148 hitting percentage, while Bentley finished with 63 kills and a .302 hitting percentage. D'Youville showcased resilience, repeatedly clawing back from early deficits. An opening-set push turned a 17-14 deficit into a 19-18 lead, culminating in a 27-25 set win. D'Youville mirrored this comeback in the fourth set, overcoming a 12-7 deficit to reach set point at 24-22. In the deciding fifth set, D'Youville managed a four-point run to close the gap from 12-4 to 12-8, but ultimately fell short.
Cameron Ulinski (Bretten, Germany / Marjory Stoneman Douglas) led the effort against Bentley with 18 kills, 20.5 points, and 11 digs.
Madeline O'Brien (East Amherst, N.Y. / Clarence) contributed 11 kills and 15.5 points, while
Ashley Ballou (Eden, N.Y. / Eden) facilitated the offense with 36 assists and four aces.
Angelyn Jaramillo (Houston, TX / Langham Creek) anchored the defense with 21 digs.
Later that day, D'Youville rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Bridgeport, winning 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23. D'Youville hit .307, racking up 55 kills and 12 service aces, while Bridgeport managed a .270 hitting percentage. The team once again demonstrated their ability to recover from early setbacks, taking the lead in three different sets after falling behind. Notably, D'Youville overcame an 11-9 deficit in the first set and a 13-12 deficit in the fourth set, sealing the match with a set point on a Bridgeport error.
Cameron Ulinski was the standout performer against Bridgeport, leading D'Youville with 19 kills, five aces, 14 digs, and 25.5 points.
Madeline O'Brien added 16 kills at an impressive .406 hitting percentage while also recording her 1,000th career kill in the match, while
Ashley Ballou directed the attack with 36 assists, seven digs, and five kills.
Hailey Ferwerda (Boca Raton, FL / West Boca Raton) also made significant contributions with eight kills, four service aces, six digs, and two blocks.
