Saints Clinch Postseason Spot in Split With Queens College

FLUSHING, N.Y. — D'Youville (19-17, 9-9 ECC) had a mixed bag of results against Queens College (10-29, 4-16 ECC) on Friday at QC Softball Field, starting with a decisive 11-1 victory in game one, followed by a narrow 2-1 defeat in game two. With the win in the first game, the Saints clinched a spot in the East Coast Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year.
In the first game, D'Youville's offense exploded for 20 hits, including a home run, while its pitching staff limited the Knights to one run and seven hits over seven innings. The Saints took control early, beginning with Frankie Morris (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) singling and advancing to second, setting up Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y.  / Williamsville East) to bring Morris home with a single up the middle. D'Youville led 1-0 after the first inning.
The fourth inning saw D'Youville extend its lead as Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) scored on a single by Morris, followed by Danielle Fenlong (Georgetown, Ontario / Christ the King) scoring on a sacrifice fly by Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, B.C. / Belmont), making it 3-0. The fifth inning featured a surge from D'Youville, with Mikayla Hussar (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) scoring on a single by Shannon Howes (Palgrave, Ontario / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Isabella Mancino crossing the plate on a throwing error. Morris then hit a two-run homer, pushing the score to 7-0.
D'Youville added four more runs in the seventh inning, with Mancino, Howes, Fenlong, and Jorgenson all scoring, bringing the final tally to 11 runs. The Knights managed to score one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to challenge D'Youville's commanding lead. The game concluded with a final score of D'Youville 11, Knights 1.
Summer Clark pitched a complete game, allowing only 1 earned run on 7 hits while striking out 6 batters, securing her 14th win of the season. Frankie Morris led the offense with four hits, including a home run and four RBIs. Danielle Fenlong contributed three hits and scored twice, adding two stolen bases. Annie Jorgenson recorded two RBIs and drew a walk.
In the second game, D'Youville struggled offensively, registering only six hits and managing to score their lone run in the fifth inning. Queens took an early lead, scoring once in the first inning and extending it to 2-0 in the second inning.
D'Youville responded in the fifth inning as Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) reached base and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Shannon Howes. Danielle Fenlong then reached on a fielder's choice, and Frankie Morris drove her in with a double to left field, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the Knights. Despite D'Youville's efforts in the following innings, the score remained unchanged, with the final score ending 2-1 in favor of Queens.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) pitched a complete game for D'Youville, throwing 6 innings and recording 7 strikeouts. Frankie Morris contributed offensively with a double and one RBI, while Isabella Mancino added two hits, showcasing her consistency at the plate.
