Offense Explodes as Softball Sweeps CSI at Home

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville University (16-16, 6-8) showcased their offensive prowess in back-to-back games against the College of Staten Island (12-18, 7-9), winning decisively with scores of 12-4 and 11-0. The team combined for 28 hits across the two games, featuring impressive performances from several players.
In the first game, D'Youville secured a 12-4 run-rule victory at Dobson Field. The Saints started strong in the first inning with Danielle Fenlong (Georgetown, Ontario / Christ the King SS) doubling to right field, followed by Frankie Morris (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) and Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, B.C. / Belmont SS) contributing key hits. Jorgenson's double to center field brought in Fenlong, and Summer Clark's (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) single allowed Morris to score. Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) added to the tally, and Shannon Howes (Palgrave, Ontario / St. Thomas Aquinas) cleared the bases with a triple, bringing in three runs. D'Youville led 6-0 after the first inning.
The second inning saw Summer Clark doubling to center field, driving in two unearned runs and extending D'Youville's lead to 8-1 by the end of the inning. In the fourth inning, D'Youville capitalized on a wild pitch and a clutch double by Shannon Howes, who brought in two more runs, solidifying their lead to 11-3. D'Youville added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Summer Clark singled to right field, allowing Leah Batterson (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Red Jacket), who pinch ran for Frankie Morris, to score.
Summer Clark delivered a complete game performance, pitching 5 innings and striking out three batters while allowing eight hits and three earned runs. She recorded four hits and four RBIs, including a double, and scored two runs. Frankie Morris contributed significantly with two runs and three hits, including a double and a triple. Shannon Howes made a notable impact with five RBIs, and Annie Jorgenson added two hits and one RBI.
In the second game, D'Youville defeated Staten Island with a commanding 11-0 victory. The team opened the scoring in the first inning with a single run as Frankie Morris advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an RBI single by Annie Jorgenson. The third inning saw a significant offensive surge, beginning with Summer Clark reaching first on an error, followed by a double from Jorgenson that moved Clark to third. Jorja Sandilands (Brooklin, Ontario / Brooklin) then doubled, driving in two runs. Isabella Mancino reached on a throwing error, and Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista) singled to load the bases. Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) grounded out, allowing another run to score. Morris capped the inning with a 3-RBI double to center field, leading 7-0 by the end of the third.
D'Youville continued to extend its lead in the fourth inning, with Jorgenson doubling, followed by Sandilands' RBI double. Mancino tripled to bring in another run, and Moreno added a sacrifice fly. Shannon Howes scored on a double by Danielle Fenlong, finishing the inning with D'Youville ahead 11-0.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) pitched a complete game over 5 innings against Staten Island, allowing 5 hits without surrendering any runs, showcasing effective control with no walks issued. Frankie Morris drove in three runs and added two hits, including a double. Jorja Sandilands tallied three RBIs, collected three hits, and scored twice. Annie Jorgenson recorded three hits and scored two runs, contributing to a strong team effort.
