Saints Swept in Rough Weathered Doubleheader Against Mavericks

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville University faced two tough defeats against Mercy University, falling 4-1 and 10-5 in back-to-back games at Dobson Field on Sunday.
In the first game, D'Youville struggled to maintain momentum after a promising start. Both teams remained scoreless through the first two innings until Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) doubled to left center and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Fenlong (Georgetown, Ontario / Christ the King), putting D'Youville on the board in the third inning. However, Mercy responded decisively, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning due to errors, bringing the score to 3-1.
Mercy extended their lead in the fifth inning with a triple followed by a single, making it 4-1. Despite a late rally attempt from D'Youville, including a double by Frankie Morris (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) in the sixth, the final score remained 4-1 in favor of Mercy.
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) pitched a complete game for D'Youville, allowing four runs on ten hits over seven innings, and took the loss, bringing her season record to 11-6. Frankie Morris contributed offensively with a double and a walk, while Isabella Mancino added a run with her double. Shannon Howes (Palgrave, Ontario / St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a hit and a stolen base.
In the second game, D'Youville started strong, taking an early lead in the first inning. After capitalizing on an error, Danielle Fenlong reached first, advancing to second, and Mikayla Hussar (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) walked. Frankie Morris reached on a fielder's choice, followed by Jorja Sandilands (Brooklin, Ontario / Brooklin) walking to load the bases. Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, B.C. / Belmont) then delivered an RBI single, scoring Hussar, and Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista) followed with a sacrifice fly, allowing Morris to score. D'Youville led 2-0 after the first inning.
D'Youville added three more runs in the fourth inning, driven by a double from Shannon Howes and two runs scored from Sandilands and Fenlong. However, the Mavericks responded with a six-run surge in the fifth to take the lead at 6-5. The game was called in the sixth inning due to weather conditions, with Mercy extending their lead by scoring four more runs, bringing the final score to 10-5.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) pitched 4 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits while issuing 5 walks. Hailee Jenkins (Ontario, Canada / Fenelon Falls) struck out 4 batters over 1 1/3 innings but allowed 3 earned runs and 5 walks. Summer Clark made a brief appearance, surrendering 1 run on 1 hit in her 3-pitch outing. Hussar scored two runs and drew two walks, while Sandilands contributed with two RBIs and a double.
