ERIE, Pa. — D'Youville women's tennis (6-7) fell to Mercyhurst University with a final score of 6-1 on Saturday at the Westwood Racquet Club.
D'Youville dropped the doubles point to the Lakers after a series of decisive matches.
Munisa Ashurbekova and
Nele Herbst secured a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles against Simone Mercier and Kiersten Brown. However, the Lakers claimed wins at No. 2 doubles, with Ellyana Jacobs and Daria Rogova defeating
Mina Randjelovic and
Erika Ismailova, 6-4, and at No. 3 doubles, where Mollie Gray and Celeste Davis swept Yeliz Prokopenko and Maria Campisi, 6-0, securing the doubles point for the home team.
In singles play, the Lakers quickly extended their lead. At No. 1 singles, Daria Rogova defeated Ashurbekova, 6-3, 6-1. No. 2 singles saw Mercier overcome Herbst with a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline. Randjelovic fell at No. 3 singles to Brown, who edged out a close 7-6(4), 6-4 victory. The Lakers clinched the match when Davis won 6-2, 6-1 over Campisi at No. 5 singles.
Ismailova delivered for the Saints with a hard-fought win at No. 4 singles, defeating Jacobs 7-6(7), 6-4, to earn the team's sole singles point. In the final singles match, Prokopenko battled in a three-setter at No. 6 singles but ultimately fell to Gray, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. The dual concluded with the Lakers securing a 6-1 victory.
D'Youville will close out the regular season next Saturday, April 17th, as they host the University of the District of Columbia at 7 p.m.
