ROCHESTER, N.Y. — D'Youville turned in an impressive performance in the outdoor opener a the Rochester Spring Opener on Sunday, highlighted by multiple top-six finishes and a pair of event victories.
Leading the way for the Saints was junior Jenna Capolupo, who delivered a standout day across multiple events. Capolupo captured first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.36, while also winning the long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters. She later helped power D'Youville to another victory as part of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished first in 4:16.07.
On the track, freshman Sokhna Diagne added to the team's success with a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:23.81. Sophomore Tayden Persons also secured a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.57, contributing to a strong showing in the sprint and hurdle events.
In the field, Capolupo's winning long jump performance paced a group that also saw multiple Saints compete, while on the track, Bond and Cowen contributed to the relay victory to round out the team's top finishes.
D'Youville's success was a mix of veteran leadership in the upperclassmen and underclassmen emerging talent, setting a strong tone early in the outdoor season.
