Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — D'Youville dropped a tough road contest on Sunday morning, falling 26–4 to Indianapolis at Key Stadium. Despite consistent pressure across all four quarters, the Saints were unable to keep pace with a high-powered Greyhounds offense that struck early and never let up.
The game started quickly for Indianapolis, as the Greyhounds got off to a hot start withnine first-quarter goals to build an early cushion. D'Youville found a response midway through the opening frame when Sam Newlin finished a beautiful feed from Danielle Gephart for the Saints' first goal, but the early deficit proved difficult to overcome.
D'Youville continued to battle in the second quarter, getting on the board again as Lily Buckley converted off another Gephart assist. Gephart was a bright spot for the Saints' offense, tallying three assists on the day and playing a key role in all phases for the team.
In the second half, the Saints showed resilience despite the scoreline. Madison McGinn found the back of the net in the third quarter, again assisted by Gephart, while Newlin added her second goal of the game with a beautiful spin move to lose the defense and capitalized with the goal in the fourth on a player-up opportunity.
Newlin led D'Youville with two goals, including the team's lone man-up score, while McGinn and Buckley each added one. Gephart's three assists accounted for all of the Saints' helpers in the contest.
In the draw circle, Lauren Parker provided a strong effort as she has all yeaer with 11 draw controls, despite being the lone Saints player to participate in the draw control while facing a rotation that included an All-American yet the greyhounds only won the draw controls by 1, 15-14. However, turnovers (20) and limited clearing success (3-for-13) hindered the Saints' ability to sustain offensive pressure.
Defensively, goalkeeper Kaylee Farias faced heavy volume, making eight really impressive saves against 46 shots from the #3 team in team in the country while adding a ground ball and a forced turnover. However, Indianapolis capitalized on its opportunities, scoring four player-up goals and finishing with 26 total goals on the afternoon.
While the final score was lopsided, D'Youville showed flashes of offensive execution, team chemistry, and fought throughout all four quarters, with contributions spread across multiple players. The Saints will look to clean up possession and build on those positives as they move forward in their schedule.
