FLUSHING, N.Y. — D'Youville women's tennis fell 7-0 to No. 18 Queens College on Tuesday afternoon at the QC Indoor Tennis Bubble in an East Coast Conference matchup.
With the result, the Saints move to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in ECC play, while the Knights improve to 9-3 overall and remain undefeated in conference action at 6-0.
Queens stole momentum early by sweeping the doubles courts to secure the opening point. The Knights began with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles over Maria Victoria Campisi and Yelizaveta Prokopenko. Erika Ismailova and Mina Randjelovic battled at No. 2 doubles but fell 6-1, giving Queens the doubles point. In the final doubles contest, Munisa Ashurbekova and Nele Herbst competed at the top spot, falling 6-3.
The Knights continued their momentum in singles play, claiming victories at No. 6, No. 3, and No. 5 singles to extend the lead.
Ashurbekova delivered one of the most competitive matches of the afternoon at No. 1 singles, taking on nationally ranked Marie Bertran. After dropping a tight first set, Ashurbekova responded by taking the second to force a deciding super tiebreak before Bertran secured the point.
At No. 2 singles, Herbst also pushed her nationally ranked opponent to the limit. Herbst captured the opening set before going to a match-deciding tiebreak, where Queens was able to close out the point.
Randjelovic competed at No. 4 singles for the Saints, while Campisi and Prokopenko rounded out the lineup at the fifth and sixth positions.
Up next, D'Youville heads back on the road for a matchup against Salem University in Salem, West Virginia on March 27th.
