FLUSHING, N.Y. — D'Youville split a high-scoring doubleheader with the College of Staten Island on Saturday at Hennekens Stadium, exploding for a 24-12 victory in game one before falling 13-4 in game two.
The Saints' offense was on full display throughout the day, totaling 28 runs, 30 hits, and seven home runs across the two contests.
Game one was an offensive showcase for D'Youville, as the Saints erased a 10-run deficit and erupted for 24 runs behind dominant performances at the plate.
After the Dolphins jumped out to a 10-0 lead through three innings, the Saints began chipping away in the fourth. Colby Wilson, Blaise Kolbert, and Cooper Cefaratti helped load the bases before D'Youville pushed across six runs in the inning, highlighted by a series of RBI hits from Jacob Cooper and Billy Morris. The momentum continued in the fifth when Colby Wilson launched a three-run home run to left-center, cutting the deficit to just one run.
D'Youville completed the comeback in the sixth inning with a six-run surge. Garett Wilson delivered the biggest swing of the game with a grand slam that put the Saints ahead, and Hudson White followed with a solo home run to extend the lead.
The Saints sealed the victory in the eighth inning with an eight-run outburst. Garrett Wilson added an RBI double and Cefaratti capped the frame with a towering four-run home run to give D'Youville a dominant 24-12 victory.
Garrett Wilson finished the game with a historic performance, blasting two home runs and driving in 10 runs while scoring three times. Billy Morris also powered the offense with five hits, including a home run, and five RBIs. Cooper Cefaratti added a grand slam of his own as part of a four-RBI day and crossed the plate five times, while Hudson White recorded four hits with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI.
On the mound, Eric Osterstrom provided crucial relief, striking out eight batters over 3.2 innings while allowing just three hits and two runs. Greg Orcutt closed the game in dominant fashion, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to secure the win.
In game two, the Saints again flashed offensive power but were unable to overcome an early surge from the Dolphins.
D'Youville struck first when Jake Hollins scored on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Cefaratti in the opening inning. Staten Island responded with a six-run bottom half and continued to build its lead over the next several innings. Colby Wilson continued his strong day at the plate, launching a two-run home run in the fifth inning to score Morris. Hollins later added a solo home run in the seventh, finishing the game with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Morris also collected two hits in the contest, while Kolbert added two hits as the designated hitter.
Across the doubleheader, Wilson led the Saints offensively with three home runs and 12 RBIs, while Morris recorded seven hits and six RBIs on the day. Cefaratti added five RBIs and five runs scored, and White contributed four hits and a home run in the game one victory.
The Saints look ahead to their home opener on Tuesday, March 24th, as they'll take on Clarion University at Sal Magile Stadium.
