STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — D'Youville (9-10, 6-5 ECC) defeated the College of Staten Island (8-15, 4-7 ECC), 68-54, at the Sports & Recreation Center. D'Youville connected on 13 three-pointers and forced 10 points off turnovers to secure the victory. CSI was held to 33% shooting from the field, unable to overcome a 7-point deficit at halftime.
D'Youville opened the quarter assertively, establishing an early lead with a series of successful three-pointers, including one by
Molly O'Toole (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) at 8:42. They continued to build momentum with another three-pointer from O'Toole at 2:59, assisted by
Samantha Ruhlman (Warren, Pa. / Warren Area), maintaining their advantage. Despite the Dolphins' efforts to close the gap, D'Youville ended the quarter ahead, 22-15, demonstrating effective shooting from beyond the arc and solid defensive rebounding.
D'Youville gained momentum in the second quarter with a defensive stand that included two blocks and two steals.
Megan Fedor (Elmira, N.Y. / Elmira) contributed early with a jumper in the paint at 9:04, and
Ava Pearson (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie) extended the lead with a three-pointer at 7:23. Despite CSI's attempts to close the gap, including a three-pointer at 4:54, D'Youville maintained their advantage. The quarter concluded with D'Youville leading 36-28 after Pearson connected on another three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.
D'Youville gained momentum early in the third quarter with
Molly O'Toole's layup at 8:38, extending the lead to six. Pearson's defensive efforts, including a crucial rebound and assist, further propelled D'Youville, as Fedor's layup at 6:06 widened the gap to ten points. Despite turnovers, D'Youville maintained control, closing the quarter with a 12–10 advantage. The quarter concluded with D'Youville securing a victory, 48–38.
D'Youville secured their victory with a strong fourth quarter, highlighted by a critical series of 3-pointers.
Xanthippi Karatasiou (Katerini, Greece / Kontariotissa) initiated a decisive swing with a three-pointer at 8:47, followed by another long-range shot at 6:37, widening the gap. O'Toole contributed to the effort with a jumper at 7:02, extending the lead to 12 points. Despite the Dolphins' attempts to close the gap, D'Youville's defense held firm, allowing only 16 points in the final quarter. The game concluded with D'Youville winning 68-54.
O'Toole led with a game-high 26 points, converting 9 of 11 field goals and 6 of 7 from beyond the arc. Pearson contributed 16 points, hitting 4 three-pointers and adding seven rebounds. Karatasiou posted 13 points and dished out five assists, also collecting seven rebounds. Fedor recorded three blocks and added four points to the team's effort.
In their next game, D'Youville will travel to face the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday, Feb. 8. The matchup is set for 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
