PITTSBURGH, Pa. — D'Youville (3-2) secured a 4-1 victory over Point Park (0-3) on Saturday at West Mifflin, followed by an 11-8 win in a second game later in the day at West Mifflin HS. In the first game, D'Youville accumulated 11 hits and two doubles, while the Pioneers managed a solo home run for their only hit.
In game one, D'Youville took the lead in the second inning with two runs;
Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) scored on a single by
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School), and
Frankie Morris (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) scored on a walk drawn by
Danielle Fenlong (Georgetown, Ontario / Christ the King). The score stood at 2-1 after the Pioneers responded with a solo home run. D'Youville extended its lead in the fourth inning as Fenlong singled to bring in Morris, and Arno scored following a double from
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East), increasing the lead to 4-1 after four innings. The Pioneers did not score in the remaining innings, and D'Youville held its lead to win 4-1.
Fenlong recorded two hits and drove in two runs, contributing significantly to the scoring.
Summer Clark posted a strong performance with three hits, including a double, and added an RBI.
Frankie Morris scored twice and collected a hit, showcasing excellent on-base presence with two walks. S. Arno hit safely and drove in a run, while also drawing a walk and scoring once. In the circle Clark only allowed one hit int he complete game while striking out five.
In the second game, D'Youville's offense was prolific, delivering 13 hits and three doubles, contributing to its fourth multi-run inning in the sixth. D'Youville opened the game with a strong offensive showing, scoring two runs in the first inning.
Shannon Howes Palgrave, Ontario / St. Thomas Aquinas) singled, stole two bases, and scored on a groundout by
Summer Clark.
Danielle Fenlong walked and also stole home. Point Park responded with three runs, highlighted a solo home run, ending the inning with a 3-2 lead for the Pioneers.
D'Youville tied the game in the second inning as
Isabella Mancino scored on a single by Fenlong, making it 3-3. The third inning saw D'Youville take control with two more runs;
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, B.C. / Belmont) scored on a sacrifice fly by
Hailee Jenkins (Ontario, Canada / Fenelon Falls), and Mancino doubled to bring home
Jorja Sandilands (Brooklin, Ontario / Brooklin), pushing the score to 5-3.
The momentum continued for D'Youville in the fourth inning, adding three runs. Howes scored following a single by Clark, and Jenkins delivered a two-RBI double to extend the lead to 8-3. However, Point Park staged a comeback in the fifth inning with five runs, including a two-RBI double and an RBI single, tying the game at 8-8.
D'Youville responded in the sixth inning with three runs.
Mikayla Hussar's (West Seneca, N.Y. / West Seneca West) pinch-hit single brought in two runs, and a fielding error allowed Hussar to score, securing an 11-8 lead. In the final inning, D'Youville maintained their defensive composure, holding the Pioneers scoreless to seal the victory.
Hadley Donnelly (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) pitched 4 innings for D'Youville, allowing 6 earned runs on 3 hits, including one home run, while striking out 3 batters.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) entered in relief, pitching 1 inning and conceding 2 earned runs on 3 hits, including a double, while striking out 1 batter.
Shannon Howes showcased speed with three stolen bases and crossed the plate twice in the game.
Mikayla Hussar contributed with a pinch-hit single, driving in two runs to boost the team's offense. On the mound,
Summer Clark delivered two scoreless innings, striking out four batters to secure the win.
Hailee Jenkins added a crucial double, bringing in three RBIs during the contest.
