Women's Basketball to 'Play4Kay' This Sunday Against Mercy

BUFFALO, N.Y. – This Sunday's D'Youville University women's basketball game against Mercy University will be the team's Play4Kay game.

"We Play4Kay to honor the lives impacted by breast cancer and to stand with those still fighting," said D'Youville University head women's basketball coach, Kelly Broderick. "This cause hits close to home for so many of us.  We are honored to be able to pair playing the game we love, with honoring those we love."

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in 2007, fulfilling Yow's vision to support advanced research, extend the quality of life for those battling cancer, serve the underserved, and unite people.

Named after the longtime North Carolina State University women's basketball coach and past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Yow's voice became a galvanizing force within the sport of women's basketball. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away in 2009 after a 22-year, on-again, off-again battle with the disease. Yow fought the battle in the public arena with hopes of inspiring others to make a difference in a fight that impacts each and every one of us.

All ticket sales for the men's and women's game that day will be donated directly to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Tip is set for 1:00 p.m. inside the Saints Center Gym against the Mavs with the men's game to follow.

Those looking to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund can do so here.
