BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville (14-12, 7-3 ECC) swept Roberts Wesleyan (3-21, 1-9 ECC) 3-0 on Wednesday, setting a new program record for wins in a season and securing a postseason berth in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Championships.
The Saints finished with 39 kills and a .255 hitting percentage while limiting Roberts Wesleyan to 18 kills and a -.032 hitting percentage. D'Youville also held a 46-36 advantage in digs and recorded five total blocks. The Saints put together six-point scoring runs in each set, including two stretches after trailing by one.
D'Youville took control early in the opening set, using a six-point run to turn a 6-3 lead into a 12-3 advantage. Angelyn Jaramillo served five consecutive points during the stretch, while Madeline O'Brien and Gabrielle Dials each contributed kills. The Saints maintained their lead to close out the set 25-15.
After trailing 13-12 in the second set, D'Youville responded with another six-point run to build a 21-14 advantage. O'Brien served five consecutive points during the stretch, while Giselle Ramirez added two kills and teamed with Ashley Ballou for a block. Maddie Boglev finished the set with a kill off a Ballou assist, giving the Saints a 25-21 victory.
The Saints carried their momentum into the third set, breaking a 14-14 tie with six consecutive points. Ramirez recorded two kills during the run, while she and Dials combined for a block. Dials later served the final four points, including an ace and a Cameron Ulinski kill, as D'Youville closed out the match with a 25-15 set victory.
O'Brien led the Saints with 13 kills, 11 digs and 14 points. Ballou finished with 31 assists, five digs and one block assist, while Ulinski added nine kills, 14 digs, one ace and one block assist. Ramirez contributed seven kills while hitting .286 and recorded three total blocks.
Wednesday's victory marked a historic milestone for the Saints, who established a new program record for wins in a season while clinching their place in the ECC postseason. With the postseason berth secured, D'Youville will look to carry its momentum into the final stretch of the regular season.
