BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville dropped a tightly contested East Coast Conference matchup to Molloy, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon despite controlling much of the play and holding a 12-6 advantage in shots.
The Saints generated six shots on goal and created several quality opportunities throughout the contest but were unable to find the equalizer. Molloy goalkeeper Kayla Monique Lipscomb made five saves, while the Lions also received a defensive save to preserve the shutout.
Jimena Loustalot led the D'Youville attack with seven shots, including three on target, while the Saints earned 10 penalty corners and kept constant pressure on the Molloy defense.
D'Youville dictated the opening quarter, outshooting Molloy 4-1. Loustalot accounted for three attempts in the period, including a shot that was turned aside in the closing seconds, while Sofia Toyos also generated an opportunity as the teams remained scoreless after 15 minutes.
The Saints continued to push in the second quarter, earning three penalty corners and adding three more shots. Hallie Villavechia kept the match scoreless with three saves in the period, including stops during a Molloy surge before halftime.
Molloy broke through in the third quarter when Katie Ogurick converted a penalty corner opportunity at the 35:13 mark. D'Youville responded with pressure late in the frame, as consecutive penalty corners led to a Meeah Wegryznowski shot on goal that was stopped, sending the Saints into the fourth quarter trailing 1-0.
The final period belonged to D'Youville offensively. The Saints earned four penalty corners and held Molloy without a shot over the final 15 minutes. Carter Bower tested Lipscomb early in the quarter, Loustalot struck the post on a near-equalizer, and Rowynn Pickering had a late opportunity blocked following back-to-back corners, but the Saints were unable to break through.
D'Youville falls to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in ECC play, while Molloy improves to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
