Capolupo And Saints Make Their Mark At Highlander Invitational

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The D'Youville University women's track and field team posted several top finishes Saturday, competing at the Highlander Invitational inside the Kerr-Pegula Fieldhouse in Houghton, N.Y.

The Saints opened the day on the track in the 60-meter dash, where freshman Neveah Granderson-Florence ran 7.98 seconds to place second overall, and sophomore Gabrielle Tripi finished 15th in 8.64 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Granderson-Florence ran 28.75 seconds to place 16th out of 38 runners. Senior Julia Sponable finished 11th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:28.92.

DYU had a strong showing in the 800-meter run, led by junior Barbara Kunz, who finished fourth in 2:33.00. Sophomores Taylor Bond (2:37.67, ninth) and Sienna Uebelhoer (2:39.82, 10th) also posted top-10 finishes. Uebelhoer placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 5:40.54, while freshmen Andrea Marquina (5:50.09, 13th) and Sokhna Diagne (5:50.99, 14th) added top-15 results.

In the distance events, junior Lilianna Peters continued her strong indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (11:28.32), and junior Lily Schulz placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (19:28.55). Sophomore Tayden Persons ran 10.62 seconds to add to the Saints day, finishing sixth in the 60-meter hurdles

The Saints excelled in the field events, highlighted by junior Jenna Capolupo, who won the long jump with a distance of 5.71 meters. DYU showed their depth in the event with finishes by Persons (4.50m, eighth), freshman Nicole Lewis (4.42m, ninth), freshman Jordin Brown (4.25m, 10th), and sophomore Grace O'Neill (4.10m, 12th). In the triple jump, Lewis placed fourth (9.76m), Brown fifth (9.57m), and O'Neill sixth (9.50m).

In the high jump, freshman Rylie Biamonte led the Saints with a fourth-place mark of 1.48 meters, while Persons was sixth (1.40m). Sophomore Felicity Cooper cleared 2.15 meters for seventh place in the pole vault.

D'Youville will look to carry the momentum from multiple podium and top-10 performances into Youngstown, Ohio on January 30-31 as the Saints compete in the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
