BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville Women's Soccer started off their season on a high note after defeating American International College 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Dobson Field in their season opener.
The first half unfolded with both teams remaining scoreless, despite D'Youville's persistent offensive efforts. Early on,
Eleonora Cecchini and
Manta Socada contributed shots, with
Olivia Paterniti and
Makaylah Higgins also challenging the Yellowjackets' goalkeeper. D'Youville's
Alegra Black was steady in goal, notably saving a bottom-center shot in the 27th minute, maintaining a 0-0 scoreline at the end of the half.
The second half commenced with D'Youville demonstrating offensive intent, as
Kayla Frasca and
Ella Hurrle both forced saves from AIC's goalkeeper, within the opening minutes. The breakthrough came in the 62nd minute when Hurrle found the back of the net, assisted by Socada, giving D'Youville a 1-0 lead. Despite AIC's attempts to equalize, including a late shot saved by Black, D'Youville held firm to secure the victory.
D'Youville starts the season strong with a 1-0-0 record after the victory. AIC fell to 0-1-0 following the loss.
Looking ahead, the D'Youville soccer team is set to host Assumption University on September 7. The match will kick off at 1:15 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y., where D'Youville will aim to capitalize on their home field advantage.
