BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — Saints field hockey dropped a hard fought road contest with fifth-ranked Bloomsburg University, falling by a score of 3-0.
The defense was on display in the first quarter, marked by a strong showing from goalkeeper,
Sarah Reifsnyder, making crucial saves throughout the period. Despite multiple fouls from both teams, DYU maintained their defensive composure throughout the quarter, keeping the game scoreless heading into the second frame.
The second quarter began with an early goal from a penalty corner by Bloomsburg's Alexandra Bliss. Despite a strong defensive save by
Chloe Burkhard in the 22nd minute, Bloomsburg extended their lead with a goal from Kate Ferguson shortly after. The quarter concluded with Bloomsburg's Raegan Iasiello finding the back of the goal, bringing the score to 3-0.
The third quarter commenced with a series of fouls, marked by a green card issued to Bloomsburg's Bliss, as the Saints tightened up defensively. Reifsnyder made crucial saves, notably stopping multiple shot attempts and ensuring Bloomsburg remained scoreless in the quarter. Bloomsburg's offense was thwarted repeatedly, with shots going wide or being blocked, keeping the score 3-0 heading into the final period.
The fourth quarter commenced with a flurry of defensive efforts from D'Youville, highlighted by another impressive series of saves by Reifsnyder. Burkhard contributed a crucial defensive save in the 54th minute, as the quarter remained scoreless.
Sophomore goalkeeper Reifsnyder posted 13 saves over 60 minutes, marking a key defensive effort. Freshman defender Burkhard contributed with two defensive saves, underlining her role in the backline.
The next challenge for D'Youville field hockey comes as they travel to Rochester, N.Y, to face Roberts Wesleyan University. The game is set for September 24th at 4 P.M.
