DYU Field Hockey Drops Home Contest to IUP

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville University field hockey took on Indiana University of Pennsylvania, falling by a score of 8-0.

The first quarter began with a defensive statement from D'Youville as Sarah Reifsnyder made key saves, including a stop on a shot from Jess Davidson of the Crimson Hawks. Despite a strong defensive effort, IUP capitalized on a penalty corner in the 14th minute, with Davidson scoring the game's first goal, assisted by Amira Lux. The quarter ended with D'Youville trailing 1-0, but their defensive resilience was evident throughout.

D'Youville faced a challenging second quarter as the Crimson Hawks capitalized on a penalty corner to score early, with Davidson netting the goal assisted by Lilly Fringer. Despite repeated offensive attempts from IUP, D'Youville's goalkeeper, Reifsnyder, stood firm with multiple saves, aided by a defensive save by Victoria Kile. However, IUP extended their lead with a goal from Lauren Horning, assisted by Celeste Gorria Rial, concluding the quarter with a score of 3-0 against D'Youville.

The third quarter opened with a quick goal from the Crimson Hawks, as Abigail Benner found the back of the net, marking her first goal of the season and pushing the score to 4-0. Reifsnyder played a crucial role in fending off multiple attacks, registering key saves against shots from Grace McGeehan and Lux. Despite the offensive pressure from IUP, D'Youville's defensive efforts, led by Reifsnyder, managed to prevent further scoring in the quarter.

The fourth quarter commenced with IUP quickly capitalizing on their offensive momentum, as Nora Kirkwood scored in the 49th minute, with an assist from Maura van de Plas, followed by an unassisted goal by Hayven Mumma. D'Youville's defense faced a barrage of shots, with goalkeepers Reifsnyder and Georgiana Pool making crucial saves. Despite the defensive efforts, the Crimson Hawks extended their lead with goals from van de Plas and Mia Gerick, bringing the final score to 8-0.

Goalkeeper, Sarah Reifsnyder, posted 15 saves in 54 minutes of play, enduring a challenging match before exiting with an injury. Pool contributed in relief by securing four saves without conceding any goals.

Looking ahead, the Saints will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday, September 14, with the game set to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Dobson Field in Buffalo, N.Y.
