BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team moves to 14-8 on the year after another strong showing at home sweeping Malone University on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints defeated the Pioneers 2-1 in game one and then followed it up with strong offense in game two to win 9-1 after five innings.

It was a great day to be a Saints pitcher as
Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) got the start in game one throwing the complete game for the Saints. Parzych allowed one unearned run off six hits while striking out six to earnt he win and move to 7-2 on the year.
The Malone Pioneers got on top first scoring their unearned run in the top of the third to move ahead 1-0. The Saints were quick to answer as
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC, Canada / Belmont SS) led off the inning with a walk and a single from
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) knocked Jorgenson in to tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
D'Youville took control in the bottom of the inning as
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) walked with one out and a single from Jorgenson put runners on first and second.
Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Bueno Vista) came up with a big single to left field to score Adamo and put the Saints ahead 2-1.
Parzych shut down the Pioneers offense in the top of the fifth. The Pioneers looked to find ways to score in the sixth and seventh, but key strikeouts and strong defensive plays led the Saints to the 2-1 victory in game one.
D'Youville University 9 vs Malone University 1 – Game Two (5 Innings)
It was
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) who took her turn with a dominant performance in the circle in game two. Lehnen threw the complete game as well recording five strikeouts while only allowing four hits, one run, and one walk in the 9-1 victory. After throwing the complete five inning win, Lehnen moves to an even 4-4 on the year for the Saints.
The Pioneers again looked to control game two as they took the 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Malone held the lead until the bottom of the third where the Saints offense found their rhythm. Adamo started the hitting chain with a triple to left field and went on to score the first run for the Saints.
Gabby Moreno knocked the double that would put the Saints ahead 2-1. From there, singles from
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East),
Laura Beck, and
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) propelled the Saints to a 5-1 lead after three innings of play.
D'Youville tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to move ahead 8-1 following another double from Moreno and a triple from
Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park).
Sophia Arno led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) put the ball in play allowing the ninth and final run to score to end the game in a 9-1 mercy.

The D'Youville University Softball team is back home for another ECC weekend. The Saints will take on Queens College on Friday at 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM. D'Youville will then host Senior Day on Saturday against Molloy university. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 12:15 PM with game one starting at 1:00 PM.
