BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team stays on a hot streak as they swept ECC opponent Queens College on Friday afternoon. D'Youville took game one 8-4 over the Knights before defeating Queens 10-2 after six innings in game two.
D'Youville University 4 vs Queens College 4– Game One
The Saints got ahead first as they quickly put up two runs in the bottom of the first. Queens tied the game up in the top of the second to bring the score to 2-2. D'Youville quickly answered plating three more runs in the bottom of the second to gup 5-2.
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School),
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central), Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint), and
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC / Belmont SS) all started the inning with singles to score two runs and smart baserunning rom Adamo brought the Saints to their fifth run.
D'Youville moved ahead 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth as
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) tripled to left centerfield and
Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) singled her in. D'Youville added a seventh run in the bottom of the fifth before the Knights would bring the score to 7-3 in the top of the sixth.
Both teams would each add one more run before the Saints defense would shut down the Knights offense and take game one 8-4.
D'Youville University 10 vs Queens College 2 – Game Two (6 Innings)
It was the Knights who took the quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Saints quickly answered as Przybysz and Adamo quickly got on base and scored to tie the game at two. D'Youville took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second as they jumped ahead 5-2 following singles from
Laura Beck,
Sophia Arno, and
Gianna Adamo.
The Saints tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth and extended their lead to 9-2 in the bottom of the sixth. The Saints strung together three hits from
Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista),
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East), and
Laura Beck.
It was a team effort in the bottom of the sixth as
Hailee Jenkins (Ontario, Canada / Fenelon Falls SS) singled and advanced to second following a walk from Moreno.
Taylor Stronciski (Winnipeg, Manitoba / College Beliveau) came in to pinch run for Jenkins and advanced to third.
Laura Beck put the ball in play to score Stronciski and give the Saints the 10-2 mercy win in game two.
