BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team ended Senior Day with a split against Molloy University on Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell to the Lions 11-9 in eight innings in game one and then came back to walk off game two 10-9 in the bottom of the seventh.
D'Youville University 9 vs Molloy University 11 – Game One (8 Innings)
The Lions were quick to warm up on offense scoring five runs in the top of the first inning before adding two more in the top of the second to lead 7-0. The Saints offense kicked into high gear in the bottom of the third inning, scoring eight runs to take the lead off six hits.
From there, both teams battled until Molloy crossed a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game at eight. D'Youville answered right back as
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) knocked a two-out single to right and
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC / Belmont SS) doubled Adamo in to give the Saints the 9-8 advantage. Molloy waited until the top of the seventh to score a run with two outs to tie it up and send the game to extra innings. The Lions came out strong in the top of the eighth scoring two and with the Saints unable to answer, Molloy would take game one 11-9.
D'Youville University 10 vs Molloy University 9 – Game Two
D'Youville got the upper hand early in game two as they scored one run in the bottom of the first after
Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista) scored
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) on a sacrifice fly to right field. The Lions answered right back in the top of the second scoring two runs to take the 2-1 lead.
Patience was key for the Saints in the bottom of the second as they scored five runs off four walks and a double from Moreno to take the 6-3 lead. The Lions again slowly worked their way back scoring one run in the top of the third and four runs in the top of the fifth to take control of the game with the 7-6 lead.
D'Youville was not done fighting as they plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth that all started with a double from Jorgenson to take the 9-7 lead. The pattern continued as Molloy tied the game at nine in the top of the seventh to stay alive.
Gianna Adamo reached first in the bottom of the seventh with a walk and
Annie Jorgenson became the hero of the game with a double to right center to knock in the Saints tenth run and give them the 10-9 walk off win over the Lions in game two.
