BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team played their final regular season home games against the College of Staten Island on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints defeated CSI 1-0 in a tight game one before falling 13-11 in game two.
D'Youville University 1 vs The College of Staten Island 0 – Game One
It was an offensive struggle in game one as pitching reigned supreme throughout the first seven innings of play. The Saints took the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) led off the inning with a single to left field.
Becca Sawyer (Courtice, Ontario / Holy Trinity Catholic SS) followed behind reaching on a fielder's choice.
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) was the hero as she came up with a two-out single to left to score Sawyer and put the Saints ahead 1-0.
With the Saints unable to score anymore, the defense held up along with masterful pitching from
Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) to lead the Saints to the 1-0 win in game one. Parzych threw the full seven innings only allowing five hits, no runs, and two walks while striking out a season-best nine batters. This marks three shutouts for Parzych, a personal best in the season.
D'Youville University 11 vs The College of Staten Island 13 – Game Two
Game two ran the complete opposite from game one with both offenses taking over recording 23 hits between the two teams. The Dolphins took the early 6-0 lead after the top of the first, but the Saints worked their way back scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.
Emily Przbysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) walked to lead off the inning and was brought around to score on a single from
Summer Clark while
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC / Belmont SS) scored on a fielder's choice hit by
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa).
The score held at 6-2 in the Dolphins favor until the D'Youville offense exploded in the bottom of the third to score seven runs and take the 9-6 lead.

Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) all recorded RBIs to give the Saints the lead as both Beck and Adamo tripled in the inning. CSI offense picked back up in the top of the fifth as they tied the game at nine, but the Saints were quick to retake the lead as a sacrifice fly from
Summer Clark put the Saints back ahead 10-9.
The Dolphins did not give up and plated four runs in the top of the seventh to move ahead 13-10. D'Youville got one back in the bottom of the inning off a bases loaded walk to bring the score to 13-11, but it was not enough to overtake the Dolphins and CSI took game two 13-11.

The D'Youville University Softball team is back on the road for the remainder of their season. The Saints will face off against St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday, April 18th at 2 PM and 4 PM before taking on Mercy University on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
