SPARKILL, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team suffered two tough lossed to St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday afternoon. The Saints fell 3-0 in game one despite a strong pitching performance before being downed 9-3 in game two.
D'Youville University 0 at St. Thomas Aquinas College 3 – Game One
It was a pitcher's battle in game one as both teams only recorded one hit after two innings of play. The Spartans scored the first run of the game off two hits in the bottom of the third. D'Youville threatened in the top of the fifth as both
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) and
Becca Sawyer (Courtice, Ontario / Holy Trinity Catholic SS) singled, but the Saints were unable to score a run. STAC tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to move ahead 3-0.
Summer Clark came up with another big two-out single in the top of the seventh making for thee for three on the day and keep the Saints alive.
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) followed behind with a ground-rule double to left field to put runners on second and third, but the inning would end with the Saints unable to score and the Spartans would take game one 3-0.
Sarah Parzych (Getzville, N.Y. / Williamsville North) had another strong showing in the circle for D'Youville throwing the complete game and recording seven strikeouts.
D'Youville University 3 at St. Thomas Aquinas College 9 – Game Two
It was the Saints who struck first in game two after
Laura Beck and
Mia Trietley (Buffalo, N.Y. / Frederick Law Olmsted) got on base. A single from
Becca Sawyer along with a double from
Sophia Arno (Clarence Center, N.Y. / The Brook Hill School) knocked three runs to give the Saints the lead in the top of the second. St. Thomas Aquinas fought their way back scoring two runs in the bottom of the third.
The Spartans took their lead in the bottom of the fifth as they scored three more to go up 5-3. STAC tacked on their final four runs in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 9-3. D'Youville got runners on second and third in the top of the seventh but were unable to score a run as STAC took game two 9-3.

The D'Youville University Softball team stays in the tri-state area for another doubleheader against Mercy University tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
